How did you get started managing crowdfunding campaigns?
In 2014, I crowdfunded for start-up costs for my film production company, and it turned out that I was really good at it. I made friends with Emily Best, the CEO of Seed & Spark through their amazing #FilmCurious Twitter chat, and the rest is history. I now help filmmakers through the crowdfunding process - it's really a job for a left-brained AD type, and in a community full of right-brained creatives, it can be really overwhelming. I try to bridge that gap by being the organized person among the chaos so that the filmmaker doesn't feel lost and overwhelmed.
How did you first get involved in Hard-ish Bodies?
I met Mike several years ago while doing a sketch show together and asked him to come work on my set. I somehow convinced him to move in across the street, and we now try to collaborate on projects as much as possible, so, when he decided he wanted to use crowdfunding for this project, he came to me to help manage the campaign and run social media.
How has it’s message about body positivity affected you?
It's definitely reminded me that I'm not alone in the world in my insecurities. Everyone has something, and no one is paying attention to the things you're paying attention to. When you aren't constantly talking about that with a group of people you trust, that notion gets lost sometimes. I'm grateful for this open, honest group of individuals who aren't afraid to embrace their "flaws" (they're never flaws) and be REAL people who are REAL sexy! <3
What do you think about crowdfunding on Seed&Spark so far? Best parts? Worst parts?
The best part about crowdfunding is seeing a dream realized, for real, and knowing that you don't have to compromise your vision for anyone. The worst part, to be perfectly honest, is to rally the team and get them to submit content to you before the campaign starts (you have to start prepping AT LEAST 6 weeks in advance to get everything in order) so that the "during campaign" stuff runs smoothly.
When do you feel your sexiest?
Honestly - when I'm in my favorite jeans and tee and my hair is just wavy enough and I'm making people laugh.
