This past Saturday I saw something amazing - millions gathered for a common purpose. I took part in the Austin Women's March where 50k+ protesters were joined by so many others around world. I marched to show respect. I marched to show support. I marched to show that I stand with the women that continuously make the world a better place. Their impacts can be seen in every crack and crevasse of our world at every level - global, national, personal, etc.
We had an amazing launch party last night and I will talk about it in a later blog. For now, I want to take this time to thank the women that I've made Hard-ish Bodies what it is today and the impact they’ve had on me and my work. This is my love letter to them.
To Regina - YOU ARE POWERFUL. I’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again. Your words and actions have pushed me forward more than you will ever know. Without you, I don’t know where I would be or if I would’ve trusted myself to continue to pursue Hard-ish Bodies. Your character (or at this point, alter-ego), Roxy, inspires and influences every single person that has seen the live show and will see this short film. You’ve allowed yourself to be vulnerable and have chosen to love yourself. I’ve been told dozens of times how you are the audience’s spirit animal. You are who people want to be. Thank you for being you.
To The Women Of The Live Show Cast - YOU ARE THE WORLD. You showed support by filling out the world with characters of such amazing depths. You took each and every opportunity to uplift each other and have each others back. From the smallest gesture to the boldest accent, you built the world of the show and navigated the rest us through stories that made people laugh, cry, and love just a little more. Thank you for being you.
To The Women Of The Short Film Cast - YOU ARE THE FUTURE. There are some of you that are cast and some that are yet to be cast, but know that you will shape the future of this project. As a director and writer, my promise to you is that I will listen to your suggestions as to how to make these women stronger. You are not merely a name. You are a developed character. Thank you for being you.
To Elena & Taylor - YOU ARE BRAVE. You are guiding lights. Your passions are evident in the efforts you put forth. As crowdfunding managers, you’ve put in work for months developing the strategic and tactical plan to enable a dream. Your advice and knowledge about the industry have been and will continue to be a direct result of our success. You make me safe. You make me feel like with the right spreadsheet, we can rule the world. You are crazy enough to see in the goodness of people and their willingness to further along not a film, but a message. As friends, you’ve made me more compassionate, empathetic, and aware. You’ve made me a better storyteller. You’ve made my dream seem possible. Thank you for being you.
To Carissa - YOU ARE TRANSFORMATION. It sounds cliché, but you are the real deal. You are an amazing woman. Your story is evident in your work. You enable us to express ourselves. You are the mastermind behind the sexy. You’ve given many the ability to showcase their confidence through dance. The elegance and grace you’ve allowed for us to embody has taken Hard-ish Bodies from a goofy show/film, to a performance with passion. Thank you for being you.
To Stephanie - YOU ARE ENOUGH. Your story inspires me. Your struggles, your motivation, your evolution remind me that what we’re doing can have a serious impact on someone’s life. You’ve changed and I don’t know if you’ve realized it. Your confidence and willingness to love yourself is seen even when you don’t feel it. Thank you for being you.
To Jenny - YOU ARE OUR LIGHT. You are who I think of when I’m asked about our audience. You are our superfan. Seeing you sitting in your spot every show meant that we were doing something right. You’ve inspired the project more than you will ever know. Seeing you light up after a rough week was motivation to keep doing what we are doing. Your amazing words comparing Hard-ish Bodies to a Magic Mike rip off show got me through one of my darkest times. Your continued support makes me believe that there are people out there that need to see what we’re doing and hear why we’re doing it. You’ve brought me to tears with hearing how Hard-ish Bodies has impacted you and continues to impact you. Thank you for being you.
To Meghan - YOU ARE STRONG. You believe in me in ways no one has before. You’ve supported me at my highest points and my lowest points. Your words have kept me going when I was scared to go forward. You inspire me each and everyday. You make me a better person each and everyday. You are my foundation each and everyday. I love you so much and am so lucky you are with me in this journey. Thank you for being you.
To My Mom & Her Wife - YOU ARE LOVE. Things haven’t always been perfect for us. We didn’t commit to fully being in each other's lives until three years ago. Since that time, you both have made such an impact in my life. You show me to be who I am unapologetically. You show me to surround myself with those that believe in me. You show me to love me for me. Every time you say you’re proud of me, I tear up knowing you mean it. You are more than I deserve. I love you. Thank you for being you.
To The Women Of The World That Pave The Way For Body-Positivity - YOU ARE CHANGE. You are the only reason I’m able to do this film. Women like Jessica Weiner whose work with Dove and their Real Beauty campaign and redesigning Barbie to fit standards of real women. You're speaking truth to all. You have paved the way and made it possible for me to be comfortable in this pursuit. You inspire me. You give me the courage to love myself. You give me the security to know my feelings are valid. I am so grateful to you.
